The 1984 born autodidact Joseph Rudolf lives and works as a freelance visual artist in Vienna & Lower Austria. Since 2015 he is also active as a curator & organizer at the Jan Arnold Gallery, MuseumsQuartier, Vienna. As one of the artistic directors of the exhibition format „Living Studio – Creative Process“ at frei_raum Q21 in the MQ Vienna, he has been making a significant contribution to a new, low-threshold access to contemporary art since 2018. Prior to his artistic activities he completed the ‚Individual Diploma in International Development‘ at the University of Vienna.

The artworks of Joseph Rudolf are mostly of conceptual origin and socially and environmentally critical themes are playing a special role. Based on the concept, he chooses the appropriate medium, which allows him the freedom of realization through abstract paintings, objects or installations. His painting is characterized by graphic and abstract compositions, partly minimalist without presenting the content in a simple striking way. He works in layers, alternates between precise geometric and free elements in order to make their visibility and contradictions clear respectively to deconstruct them mutually. Everyday objects get rid of their original function without losing their appearance and are occupied with new content. Rudolf chooses participatory approaches in installations when he invites the audience to complete his works.
